Reviews
The food is good.
The spicy calibration is set a little lower than what I'm accustomed to in the South Bay. The "hot" spicy level here equates to a South Bay "mild to medium".
Recommend you give it a try. š
Wanted to like this place because of the reviews but they are misleading. I ordered the masala dosa, saag paneer, rice, naan, samosa, and spinach cheese samosa. The samosas were good but everything else tasted like water. Everything had no flavor - we asked for medium spice and tasted no spice - there didn't even seem to have salt added! The green chutney was super watery and had no flavor, just tasted like water. The tamarind chutney was better (the only flavorful chutney). There was a turmeric chutney and it literally tasted like turmeric powder and water, again no spice or flavor. The sambar, again tasted watery, like watered down vegetable soup. No salt no flavor. The masala dosa was thick and not crispy, more like a pancake than crepe - again the filling, which was masala and potatoes tasted of nothing - no spice, no salt and very dry! The saag paneer was the worst. The cheese cubes tasted like nothing and the saag was disgusting. Literally tasteless blended up spinach. It was like eating baby food. There was no spice, not flavor, no salt. Just as if someone put frozen spinach into a blender and added some paneer cubes and called it saag paneer. In all we paid over $80 for bland food, tasteless. Save your money and go to Cafe Raj or Aangan for some REAL flavorful Indian/South Asian food and go to UDUPI Palace for dosas, saag paneer, and authentic and tasty South Indian food!!
Really nice local Indian diner in Albany. We got papdi chaat, daal makhani, malai kofta, butter chicken, and uttapam with some sweet lassis and beers on the side. The group favorite was easily the malai kofta- super creamy and rich. In my opinion, the daal could use a bit more flavor/salt.
Overall the food and ambiance was really good. Recommend for locals and perfect for Cal and other local students if theyāre craving Indian food.
To stretch a little bit and create a parallel, new deli cuisine is to Indian cuisine, what Parisian cuisine is to French cuisine. With more influences and cultures concentrated at the same table as opposed to more traditional fare.
Nonetheless, Krishna, the owner here and Amin the chef, take what they do very seriously, and this neighborhood is blessed for it.
I've been eating Indian food my entire life and this is among one of the greatest dining experiences I have ever had eating Indian food of any kind at a restaurant.
I always start with something that is a staple of a restaurant. So I ordered the butter chicken and the korma curry with vegetables, some garlic naan and a mango lassie.
Right away. When the items arrived at my table, I could smell the herbs, and spices, and upon first taste, I was very happy. There was no extra sugar, salt, or anything except real, natural flavor cooked by a Master Chef in each one of these dishes.
The butter chicken was absolutely spectacular, and the korma curry deeper, and richer than any I have had before. The garlic naan was absolutely perfect, and the mango lasse, and not from a mix.
Talking with Krishna who is a delightful host, she explained some of the principles of New Delhi cuisine to me, and how she had pride in her restaurant and her food, and it shows. This is a wonderful place, and it costs a little bit more, but it is worth every penny. I cannot recommend this place highly enough, and the atmosphere service and the people there in general are just divine.
Avoid!!! Ordered vegetarian food which was absolutely pathetic.
1. Kadhai Paneer was tasteless
2. Bhendi masala included uncooked vegetables
3. Gobi Manchurian was rock hard, May be they provide hammer as part of cutlery
4. Dal was spicy enough that a spoon of dal had to be watered down by a glass of water.
5. Considering all these we asked one tea instead of 10. The tea was pathetic too, was soapy enough to tell us what the soap is being used.
6. More importantly, the manager had an attitude where she didnāt want to even acknowledge the concerns or take feedback. Instead she was telling its ok.
Ex- look at the reviews, their response is only towards positive comments. No response is given to negative reviews. Not even a sorry for the experience. š¤·
I came with a friend who wanted vegan Indian food and after looking at reviews we came to Delhi Diner. We got the Navratan Korma, and saag with tofu and while portions were big, we were that impressed with the food. We've had better. The korma lacked salt and flavor (not nutty at all) and the tofu in the saag tasted like it was previously frozen and not fresh. The naan was just ok. The best thing we tasted was the mint chutney. Service was a little weird. I ordered the chai tea which came tasting like warm milk with no chai or tea flavor and the waitress wouldn't take it off my table. She argued with me and kept going back and forth to the owner to discuss and all I wanted to do was order a different drink. I'm not sure where all the good reviews of their food come from, perhaps you need to order a meat dish here.
This is the worst experience of Indian food I have had. I am a native Indian who believes in supporting small businesses. The Goat Biriyani that was delivered was the absolute worst - a partial* mixture of turmeric, cumin, rice and goat. I didnāt want to write a review and instead took the high road of calling the restaurant. I told him I am not well and ordered this for my kids. He said come get a refund. I explained this Is not about a refund not about a review which is why I am calling him to let him know that it was something he needed to know because there were chunks of white rice. The owner was super rude and arrogant asking about my cooking skills and I knew to cook a Biriyani. He was so defensive. I would not order nor ever recommend this place to anyone. See the pic of one chunk of rice and there several like this. Hence the *partial mixture description.
Amazing food and service. Just get lunch there the food was very delicious we ordered chicken and lamb and samosa ... and the taste drink with mango š„ . Especially we were with kids and they take good care of them . We will back soon thanks ā¦
